![]() " ...language development... I say, development, not teaching, for the mother does not teach her child language. It develops naturally, like a spontaneous creation. " (The Absorbent Mind, Maria Montessori) Elementary Program During the elementary years, children emerge from their immediate world to a time of exploration and growth beyond the limits of the classroom and their personal experiences. They begin to understand abstract concepts such as time or cause and effect which can not be addressed with the more concrete primary materials. Evergreen's small class size enables our teachers to devote themselves to meeting the needs of each individual student. Teachers encourage their students to ask probing questions and to seek out answers on their own. Students are challenged to master individual subjects and apply information they have learned across disciplines, as well as learn the value of teamwork and independent study and research. Evergreen's program also guides students in the establishment of their personal values. Children learn to value differences and similarities among their peers and respect individual strengths and interests. They become eager to participate and do their best for the common good. The Elementary Curriculum incorporates the following areas: mathematics, English, Geography and Social Studies, History, Physical Education , science, computer science, ecology, drama, art, Spanish, music, research and library, educational trips, and character education |
