Our new specialty summer programs are designed for our 7 to 10 year olds. We have teamed up with Mad Science inviting your child into a world of discovery through unique, hands-on experiences that encourage scientific literacy. Evergreen welcomes a diverse population in a safe and nurturing setting. All activities are developmentally appropriate and directed by trained staff.

Mad Science Weekly Themes 2012
Week 1: June 18-22Secret Agent Lab
Suspects! Schematics! and Sleuths! Connect the dots using science to help solve a crime in this hands on investigation of the science of sleuthing. Uncover the science involved in evidence gathering and analysis and fingerprinting detection. Enhance you recall and observation skills and learn how to use spy equipment.
Week 2: June 25- 29
Crime Scene & Chemistry
Mad Science introduces you to life in the form of cells and organs and to how the science behind life can help you solve a crime! Discover the secrets behind batteries and design marshmallow molecules! Conduct electricity and power a Mad Science whirligig. Experience blood pumping through the heart and air moving through the lungs. Use ooey-gooey ingredients to build a model cell & use your own traits to decode & decipher your DNA.
Week 3: July 2-6 (No Camp on July 4th)
Earth, Space, and Beyond!
Mad Science invites you to decipher the world around you. As young astronauts, we will explore the mysteries of the solar system. How do astronauts live and work in space? The sun, moon and the stars are only a few of the things that must be dealt with on this Mad Science space mission! Use Morse code to send secret messages to your friends. We’ll learn the basics about water pollution, acid rain and the benefits of solar energy. By recycling your own garbage you will get to make your very own paper to take home! What do football players, scientists and ballet dancers have in common?
Week 4: July 9-13
Science in Motion
Discover how things move with science. Take apart pellets to see what an owl cannot digest! View the world through a camera obscura that you make yourself. Join a team of camper engineers and build bridges, domes, cubes, and pyramids. Assemble and control pulleys, levers, catapults, and simple machines. Make your own sidewalk chalk, crystal gardens, and chromatography-dyed T-shirt!
Week 5: July 16-20
321…Blast Off!
This action-packed week will focus solely on rockets and the physics of rocket flight. After learning the model rocket safety code, campers will build a number of different rockets and participate in the launching, mission control, propulsion and finally recovery of the rockets they build. Campers will be divided into three groups: altitude trackers, launch preparation, and launchers. Every camper will have an opportunity to try all three.
Week 6: July 23-27
Red Hot Robots
Learn about the uses of robots in the world. Spend time playing with our super cool red-hot robots. Use your skills to build your very own working robot to take home to “live” with you. Following are some topics you will explore during this fun five-day camp. These are only a sample of some of the activities that you will be doing each day. The topics will not necessarily follow this order. However, each of these topics will be included at some point in the camp.

Rates
MATERIALS FEE A $35 materials fee will be applied to the Mad Science and Gourmet Chefs Camp per week. The Summer Day Camp and Montessori Summer Camp will not have a materials fee.
