Camp : Camp Q & ACamp Q & A
For more than 37 years, the Evergreen Montessori School Summer Camp has offered programs designed to emphasize creating exciting opportunities to learn, play, and grow. Be sure to check out our two new programs (Mad Science and Gourmet Chefs at Evergreen) for ages 7-10 year olds! Please refer to the Information Policy Handbook for detailed information.
Q: Do all campers take swimming lessons?
A:
Summer Day Camp groups have swimming lessons with certified instructors. Mad Science, Gourmet Chefs and the Montessori Program do not swim. At the pool, there are teachers in the water and on the pool deck and two lifeguards on duty. The Acorns and Pinecones swim in the gated baby pool area except when taking their lesson.
Q: What is the teacher/camper ratio?
A: There is a maximum of 20 children in each group with an adult and an assistant.
Q: Does my child bring his/her lunch?
A: Campers bring bagged lunches. Your child can order pizza lunch on Fridays by handing in a pizza envelope (available in the Camp Office).
Q: What are the qualifications of the counselors?
A: Evergreen is known for our professional staff. Each group leader is an adult with a degree or experience in the educational field. All of our staff is CPR and First Aid certified, and submit to an extensive background check with the Maryland State Police and the FBI. The Montessori Summer Program is led by Evergreen school staff.
Q: What are the camp's safety policies?
A: On campus, counselors use walkie talkies to keep in contact with each other and the Director. On trips, counselors take a cell phone, first aid kit, and medical information for each camper every time they leave campus. Before releasing any camper, we verify identification and parental information.
Q: What's your policy on camp closings?
A: We follow Montgomery County for school and camp closings. Please check our website and phone for weather-related closures.
