Why Evergreen?

Policies: Health

ALLERGIES
Parents must inform Evergreen of any allergies a child has and of any allergy specific treatment or medication. Allergy medication must be accompanied by the State required Authorization to Administer Medication form available in the school office.

Health emergency procedures must be outlined, in writing, by parents and reviewed step by step with the Head of School and staff. Changes in a child's condition must be reported promptly. We ask that a student with food allergies bring his or her own snack.

An Allergy List is posted in the school office and in each classroom for staff use as a reminder of which children have allergies.
ILLNESS
Illness often comes at very inconvenient times, but children still need the care of parents at home, away from the rigors of school and other students. Parents are called and asked to come directly to Evergreen to get their child when illness strikes at school. Only your care suffices at times such as this.

Guidelines for keeping a child at home include:
  • Fever - 24 hours at home after a fever is the rule.
  • Playground - Please refrain from sending your children back to school with a provision that they cannot go out to play. Children should not return to school unless they can participate fully.
  • Medication - Allow at least 24 hours from the start of medication until your child returns to school.
  • Prescriptions - If medication has to be administered at school, it must be accompanied by an Authorization to Administer Medication form (available in the office).
COMMUNICABLE DISEASES
If a child is diagnosed with a communicable disease or condition (lice, chicken pox, ringworm, etc.), we send a fact sheet on the disease home to all our families. If a large number of children have similar symptoms (stomach aches, fevers, sore throats), we will notify parents of this as well.
