Frequently Asked Questions

Do you have a part-time program?
All classes are five days a week. Children under 5 have a half-day option (leaving at noon).

What are the hours of the school day?
The regular school day is 8:30 a.m. until 3:00 p.m. There is a half-day option for children under 5. There is extended care available from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., which can be used on a drop-in basis.

Should I send my child full day or half day?
At about age 5 children enter the Academic Afternoon program and are required to stay full day. Children younger than about 4 years usually nap in the afternoon. Children who do not nap and are not ready for Academic Afternoon are in the Nest, a low-key program tailored to four-year-olds.

Does my child have to be toilet trained?
Yes. Any child who is at least 2 ½ years old; who has developed a regular awareness of when and how to use the toilet, therefore no longer needing protective undergarments or having accidents on a regular basis; and who is able to fully care for him/herself in the bathroom is eligible for admission.

Do you provide lunch?
No. Lunches should contain non-perishable foods, as Evergreen School does not provide refrigeration for student lunches. On Thursdays a lunch of pizza, carrots, and apple juice is available for a small charge.

Do you provide snacks?
Snack is provided in the morning and in the after school program.

Do you offer Spanish lessons?
Spanish lessons are given to children 4 years old and older.

Do you have before and after-care?
Care is available from 7:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

What is the teacher/student ratio?
The Primary classes have maximums ranging from 15 to 24 students in a class (based on square footage of the various rooms), each with a Montessori trained teacher and an assistant. The Lower Elementary classes have maximums of 18 and 24, each with one Montessori-trained teacher. The Upper Elementary has a maximum of 18 students. Each class has an assistant teacher (not necessarily Montessori-trained) if enrollment necessitates it.
