About Us : Parent EducationParent Education
At Evergreen School, we believe that each child’s education is a partnership. Parents are a child’s first and most important teachers. We emphasize the importance of the family in the child’s development and seek to create a partnership with parents. Together, staff, parents, and children become a community of learners.
Once your child has been accepted to our School, you begin to receive important information that will help orient you to our School community. You will be assigned a “buddy” family, a family familiar with our School who can answer your questions and help you feel welcome.
After the school year begins, we offer a variety of opportunities and experiences to help you learn more about your child’s experiences in a Montessori classroom and the many ways you can make meaningful contributions. Some of our events, such as our festivals, our annual auction, and your participation in our parent association, bring the whole school together. Some, such as Back-to-School Night, observations, and parent-teacher conferences, are centered around individual classroom communities. Still others, such as Montessori University and our reading book group, explore Montessori philosophy and pedagogy and speak more specifically to child development issues.
Each Friday you will receive our weekly Bulletin, filled with information about what is going on at Evergreen. Alternate weeks will contain information about the classrooms, written by our teachers. There also will be articles about Montessori education, child development, and other interesting topics.
Our Parent Advisory Committee (PAC) meets regularly throughout the year to offer a forum for discussing events, addressing concerns, disseminating information, and coordinating volunteers. All parents are welcome and are vital to maintaining the strong sense of community that makes Evergreen so special.
Our goal, again, is to offer many and varied ways for you to get involved. We both hope and expect that you will participate in your child’s experience at Evergreen, and we look forward to partnering with you.
